Manager of Arsenal Arsene Wenger will most likely stop rising star Alex Iwobi from participating at this summer Olympic games in Rio as it might cause the 19 year old to suffer burn out.

Iwobi the breakaway star of Arsenal’s season has scored twice in his last two games picking up man of the match awards for his efforts and only yesterday the Nigeria international voiced his intention to play for Nigeria U-23s at the Olympics.

The disappointment of missing out of the cup of Nations following the 0-1 loss to the Egypt has made the 19 year old to shift his focus towards the U-23s of Nigeria where he was first invited last year before he made the step up to the senior team.

If he gets his wish to be invited to camp and got selected for the Olympic he might miss the start of the season in England which won’t go down well with his club manager Arsene Wenger who blocked Kanu Nwankwo from the Olympics in 2000.

Wenger is a strong believer in players who have become regulars for their senior national team shouldn’t participate in age grade tournament especially if they are staged in the summer.
