European Champions Real Madrid survived a late rally from Chelsea to edge the English side 3-2 in one of the games of the International Champions Cup pre season friendly tournament.
Real Madrid took the lead in the 19th minute through Brazilian left full back Marcelo, whose shot went past Asmir Begovic in Chelsea’s goal for the opener.
Highly rated Nigerian teen Ola Aina, who has been earning high praises for his performances in the games he has played for Chelsea in their pre season tour, gave away possession cheaply in the 26th minute which gifted Marcelo his and Madrid’s second goal of the game.
Aina had a first half to forget like his other Chelsea teammates, and they were trailing 3-0 until the introduction of Nigerian winger Victor Moses changed the complexion of the game with 15 minutes left to play.
Moses brought about an injection of pace into the front line of Chelsea and immediately put Real Madrid on the back foot. Moses won fouls and played a big part in helping the Blues reduced the deficit from 3-0 to 3-2.
His performance could see him upstage both Pedro and Juan Cuadrado in the first team of Chelsea after the duo failed to justify the starting role handed to them by the manager.
