Manager of Chelsea Antonio Conte will have the final say on John Obi Mikel receiving a medal if Chelsea end up winning the English Premier League this season.
The rules state that only players with five or more appearances are eligible for a champion medal, but expectations include reserve goalkeepers and any player with less than five appearances due to injury.
Mikel left Chelsea in January for Chinese side Tianjin Teda without playing a single game, hence should automatically not qualify for a medal, but Chelsea have used less than 30 players this season, and they will receive 30 medals to be given out to their players and technical crew.
That said, Conte will decide who gets the remaining medal after the first team players, who are regulars have gotten their medals as well as his backroom staff who according to our count are just six.
Chelsea currently hold a four point lead ahead of second placed Tottenham Hotspur ahead of tonight’s game against Southampton.
