The coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Gernot Rohr has provided an update on the injury condition of the captain of the Nigeria senior national team John Obi Mikel.
Mikel underwent surgery in England to cure a long standing health issue, and as exclusively reported by this portal, he is set for a two months spell on the sideline which could rule him out of the game against South Africa.
Nigeria will take on South Africa on the 10th of June in Uyo in their first AFCON 2019 Qualifiers and according to Rohr, Mikel stands a 50-50 chance of been fit for the game.
” At the moment he stands a 50-50 chance of playing against South Africa, but he will be fully fit for the game against Cameroon which to me is great news because we need our captain for a game of the magnitude “, Rohr told Owngoalnigeria.com.
” Mikel’s presence will no doubt lift the spirit of the team and the players against Cameroon, if he is not fit for the game against South Africa, we have other players who can do the job in his absence”.
