The battle for spots in the midfield of the Super Eagles of Nigeria is one that will definitely give coach of the team Gernot Rohr a pleasant headache due to the options available to him.
FC Porto defensive midfielder Mikel Agu arrived the camp of the team this evening alongside the likes of Alex Iwobi, Kelechi Iheanacho, Moses Simon, Wilfred Ndidi, Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Alhassan Ibrahim.
Mikel Agu who spent last season on loan to Portuguese side Vitoria Setubal impressed Rohr during the team training tour in France, and did very well in the two test games against Corsica and Togo national team.
However he faces strong competition from the regular midfielders in the team in Ndidi and John Ogu as both players are also in the team’s camp in Uyo ahead of preparations for the Saturday AFCON 2019 Qualifiers tie against South Africa.
Captain Ogenyi Onazi is expected to start as a part of a three man midfield, and in the absence of regular captain John Obi Mikel, Ndidi is expected to take his spot leaving Agu and Ogu in a straight fight to impress Rohr.
Training starts tomorrow and Owngoalnigeria.com will as usual bring to you tit bits from the training session ahead of the crunch tie on Saturday.
