Hot in demand KAS Eupen Nigerian forward Henry Onyekuru celebrated his 20th birthday today as his move away from the modest Belgium side gathers pace.
Heavily linked with a move to English Premier League side Arsenal, the forward has also courted interest from French side Nice, who are reportedly now ahead of Arsenal in the race to sign the forward who scored 24 goals last season.
Nice have matched the transfer fee arsenal are willing to pay for the the forward who is in the camp of the Super Eagles preparing for this Saturday AFCON 2019 Qualifiers clash against South Africa.
They also appeared to have gone a step further than Arsenal as they have offered him a deal in excess of £40,000 a week, an offer which a member of his agency Mercato confirmed they are seriously considering.
” It’s better than what Arsenal offered him in terms of wages. Nice have really shown how eager they are to sign Henry. Like I said Henry wants to play for Arsenal but Nice appear to be his best option for now unless Arsenal assured him on some areas”, he told Owngoalnigeria.com.
” Arsenal is a very big team, but Nice are not far off for starters like Onyekuru when you consider the fact that they are going to be in the UEFA Champions League. Onyekuru needs playing time to continue his development, so we will consider that too when a decision is made in few days time”.
