Newly capped Super Eagles midfielder Mikel Agu had his first training session with Portuguese giants FC Porto after missing their first session on Monday, when he had his medicals.

Agu is back at the team after a successful loan spell with Vitoria Setubal last season where he made over 30 appearances, and the 23 year old was rewarded for his performances with a new deal at Porto plus a chance to push for a spot in the first team.

Already the departure of Rueben Neves has opened the door for him to stake a claim in the midfield of the team ‎ as the club will not be signing a replacement for Neves who is set to complete a club record move to English Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderes.

Injuries and fitness issues have hampered the progress of the Nigerian at Porto since joining the team‎ as an 18 year old in 2013, with the injury he sustained two seasons ago during pre season with the first team the biggest disappointment of all, because it came at a time when he was on the cusp of a breakthrough to the first team.
