Nigeria international defender Chidozie Awaziem has revealed he got an offer to join English Premier League giants Liverpool, but his release clause at Portuguese side FC Porto prevented the deal from happening.

Awaziem joined Nantes on a season long loan deal from Porto, but according to the 20 year old defender he could have easily joined Liverpool were it not for the contract he has with Porto, which carries a hefty release clause of 20 million euros.

” My agent told me about the interest from Liverpool, but a deal was never close due to the my long contract with Porto. I won’t say I missed out on the chance to join Liverpool, because I’m happy at Nantesl, Awaziem exclusively told Owngoalnigeria.com.

” I have learnt a lot at Porto, and I’m still learning at Nantes. Football education never stops especially when you have the chance to work with a veteran like Claudio Ranieri.

” The idea for me is to get playing time and hang on to my spot, unlike at Porto where I lost my spot, although I must say the coming of a new coach with fresh ideas also contributed. I’m here now and I have no choice than to give my best”.
