Premier South Africa League side Chippa United are having the best of time with their Nigerian shot stopper Daniel Akpeyi who has truly recapture the form that made them sign him three years ago.
Akpeyi was suspect towards the end of last season, and the club reinforced by signing two other goalkeepers but he has so far maintain his number one spot since returning from suspension.
In their last weekend game against Bloemfontein Celtic, the 31 year old claimed his second clean sheet in three games since returning back as the club number one shot stopper.
His return to form will no doubt increase the battle for the number one spot of the Super Eagles, which Akpeyi lost to Ikechukwu Ezenwa during the Super Eagles last CAF groups World Cup 2018 Qualifiers tie against Cameroon, as he was injured for the back to back games against Cameroon.
Calls for Ezenwa to be made the first choice of the team became very loud after his performance against Cameroon, but Akepyi who has the faith and trust of Coach Gernot Rohr will no doubt be in the rights frame of mind to battle for his shirt when they resume camping for the game against Zambia.
Nigeria presently lead their group and a win against Zambia, will see them gain an unassailable lead over every other team, and also become the first team to qualify for the World Cup from the various CAF groups.
