Newly appointed coach of German Bundesliga side Wolfsburg who gave Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen his first Bundesliga game this season has backed him to finish the season on a high.
Martin Schmidt replaced Andries Jonker who was fired after a poor start to the season by Wolfsburg, and played the Nigerian for six minutes in their 1-1 draw against Mainz 05.
Speaking to Wolfsburger Allgemeine, the coach praised the Nigerian for hid efforts in training which according to him earned him the chance to play against Mainz 05.
” It was a decison for Victor. He trained very well and scored the most goals. He is the most effective runner and I wanted to reward him”, the coach said.
Osimhen consolidated his chances of playing again this weekend when they take on Bayern Leverkusen by scoring in the pre season game they played as part of keeping players who didn’t travel for international games in shape.
