Troost-Ekong – Why I Turned Down Liverpool, Man City In Favour Of A Move To Spurs


Super Eagles of Nigeria defence hardman William Troost-Ekong has revealed the reason why he snubbed a move to Manchester City and Liverpool few years ago in favour of a move to Tottenham Hotspur.


Ekong started his career with Fulham before moving to Spurs where he spent three years but failed to make the grade and progress to the first team like his youth team counterpart Harry Kane who is now captain of the club.

Prior to joining Spurs, Manchester City and Liverpool were heavily interested in his service but the then 16 year old decided ‎to move to Spurs which came as a surprise to many.

Explaining his decision to move to Spurs instead of the above mentioned clubs, 24 year old Troost-Ekong said his family played a big role in his choice, and he has no regret joining Spurs, despite not making the grades at the club.

” What was available at Tottenham was very vital for me and my family, and that was the deciding factor for me, so I chose to play for Spurs at that time. In my private life, they managed somethings for me. I also like the club in London, it felt very good”, he told

” If you are fifteen or sixteen years old then go for what makes you feel good and where you ‎think you can get a chance. That did not work for me at Spurs, but I don’t have any regret of my time in England “.
