Gernot Rohr says the press in Nigeria made his role as coach of Nigeria difficult when he first took over as coach of the senior national team of Nigeria over a year ago.
Speaking to the online portal of respected France based media outfit L’equipe, the Franco-German coach of the team revealed he initially struggled to keep up with the demands of the Nigerian media.
However he said he was able to conquer the fear and he now has a very cordial relationship with the media, which according to him was pivotal in Nigeria securing qualification for the World Cup.
Rohr was asked about his relationship with the Nigeria Football Federation ( NFF) and the media and the coach said ” I’m the boss, I have full powers because I won straight away, so my hands became free”, he said.
” Bit the media pressure is immense in Nigeria. The press are ever present. At first I was careful not to fall into one of the cracks of the media but later I had no such problem”.
