Torino of Italy midfielder Joel Obi has done enough to seal a spot in the national team ahead of their campaign at the World Cup in Russia later in the year, Owngoalnigeria.com gathered.
Obi who started the 1-0 win against Poland on Friday, will start tonight’s game against Serbia, an indication of how well he has impressed the Franco-German coach of the Super Eagles Gernot Rohr.
Rohr appears to have found an extra body in midfield after the failed experience with the duo of Chidiebere Nwakali and Uche Agbo lately, while the duo of Nosa Igiebor and Anderson Esiti also failed to convinced the coach when he first resumed as coach of the Super Eagles.
In all of the training sessions the team have had only Wilfred Ndidi have matched the consistency of the 26 year old Joel Obi among the midfielder in the camp of the team.
His form was by far the reason why Uche Agbo was once again snubbed by coach Rohr, while Mikel Agu who was handed a late call up following the withdrawal of captain John Obi Mikel couldn’t match up to Joel in yesterday’s session.
Agu was up against Joel in their final training session yesterday, but just like every other midfielder who have been selected against him, the Bursaspor of Turkey midfielder failed to hold his own against the in-form Torino man.
