Taiwo Awoniyi showed fans of his loan side Mouscron what they have been missing in his absence with a goal on his return from suspension in their 3-0 win away at Lierse.
Awoniyi was suspended for after picking up a red card for allegedly elbowing an opponent in Mouscron’s 1-2 loss at home to Lokeren on the 3rd of March. A card that earned him a two game ban.
He marked his return with a goal in the 59th minute of their win over Lierse in the Belgium play offs. The goal increased his goal tally for the season to nine in all competitions, with 8 of the goals coming in the league while the other came in the Belgium Cup.
Liverpool rewarded him for his fine form with a contract extension, but he still won’t be a part of their first team set up next season with another loan move lined up for him in the summer.
Unlike his previous loan spells, Liverpool are keen on loaning him to a team playing in the UEFA Champions League or Europa League to strengthen their case of securing a work permit for the 20 year old using alternative means.
