The Super Eagles of Nigeria slumped to a 0-2 defeat in the hands of Croatia intheir opening World Cup 2018 game , no thanks to an own goal by Oghenekaro Etebo and a Penalty converted by Luka Modric.
Speaking at the post match conference, the coach of the Nigerian team Gernot Rohr admitted that his team were second best against Croatia, but said Eagles could have come back in the second half if not for the penalty conceded .
He however remained hopeful that they will improve in their next game, which is on Tuesday against Iceland who were in action before the Nigeria against Croatia game and they shocked the world by holding Argentina to a 1-1 draw.
“We’re really disappointed we lost this game. Croatia were the better team. We could have come back into it in the second half after we started very well before the penalty against us. We’re a young team, we’re learning and I hope in the next game against Iceland we will do much better”, the coach said.
