Paderborn of Germany defender Jamilu Collins says he still doesn’t see himself as the first choice left full back of the senior national team of Nigeria despite playing the entire duration of their double header against Libya.
Lokomotiv Moscow of Russia defender Bryan Idowu has been the left full back of Nigeria since his debut a year ago in the Eagles 4-2 win over Argentina in a friendly game prior to the World Cup but all of all that appears to have changed with the emergence of Collins.
Collins impressed in both games but he was relatively unknown before coach Gernot Rohr threw him into the starting line up for the first tie against Libya which Nigeria won 4-0.
He backed his claim for the position with another impressive display away where the Eagles triumph over same opponents 3-2 but in an exclusive chat with Owngoalnigeria.com, he revealed he still has a lot to do.
” No I’m not the first choice left back yet”, he told our correspondent when asked if he considers himself as the first choice now after his performances in the games against Libya.
” It’s too early to say because quality players like Bryan Idowu and others are still around. Favour found me in the games against Libya now I have to work hard, I mean really hard to keep my spot in the team”, he remarked.
