Highly rated Nigerian defender Junior Pius Udeme was once again the star man in defence for Portuguese side Pacos de Ferreira in their 2-0 win over Gafanha in the Portuguese Cup popularly called the Taca de Portugal.
Signed from top division side Tondela on loan by Pacos who were relegated from the top division last season, the former FC Porto trainee has been the revelation in the second division so far for top of the table Pacos de Ferreira.
22 years old Junior was as usual a colossus in the heart of the defence against Gafanha yesterday same as he was in the previous games against Farense, Sporting Covilha, Desportivo Birds and Varzim.
Since his debut after full recovery from an 8 months injury lay off which happened last season when he was beginning to make his mark in the top division with Tondela, the 1.93m tall centre back has earned himself the nickname ” Mr Clean Sheet ” in Portugal.
A return to the top flight with Pacos is well on the cards as they are presently leading the second division table with the Nigerian playing a pivotal role after six round of games in the Segunda Liga.
