On loan Roma forward Sadiq Umar has earned praises from his coach at Scottish side Rangers Steven Gerrard over his attitude and form in training the past few days.
Gerrard criticised the former Nigeria U23 goal king after his inability to break into the starting line up since his loan move in the summer and according to the coach Sadiq has reacted in the best possible way.
The coach said his recent improvements is already giving him a selection headache in attack with the Nigerian now firmly poised to challenge the duo of Kyle Lafferty and Alfredo Morellos for a spot in the attack of the team.
“Umar has shown that improvement. He’s been working very hard. He’s got his head down. He’s improved a lot. His application has improved, his quality has improved, so he’s given me something to think about for the future”, ” Gerrard said per a quote by Scottish Sun.
“I don’t know (if the warning has sparked the change), that’s something you’d have to ask Umar.
“But sometimes when a manager is honest with you, sometimes you have to go away and self-reflect. If you’re a proper footballer, you go analyse and come back stronger.”
This could mean the forward won’t leave the club in January as widely speculated despite the unhappiness of Roma over his lack of playing time after assurances by Gerrard that he will get the needed game time to aid his development ahead of a return to the Serie A side in the summer.
