The Aiteo Cup Final match which was won 4-3 on penalties by Enugu Rangers against Kano Pillars after both teams were locked at 3-3 in regulation time was watched by coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr.
Rohr watched the game as part of his scouting for players based in Nigeria in his bid to integrate them into the Super Eagles squad in future engagements and the coach noticed one player very early into the game.
Kano Pillars forward Nyima Nwagwua who set up the first goal for his side and also scored the third goal won the Franco-German coach over with his all round play particularly in the first half when Pillars ran riot and took a three goal lead early into the second half.
However Rohr said Nyima just like the rest of his Kano Pillars teammates failed to raise his game in the second half, hence missed out on a chance to stake a claim for a call up to the senior national team of Nigeria.
“I saw somebody in the first half (Kano Pillars striker Nwagwua Nyima), but I didn’t see him again in the second half”, the coach said.
“I saw some good players in the Rangers team in the second half, but I cannot say this must go to the Super Eagles.”
