Nigeria international defender Chidozie Awaziem was handed his first start in his first game for FC Porto this season in their dramatic 4-2 win over Varzim in the Portuguese Cup.
Awaziem lasted the entire duration of the cup triumph and aside picking up a caution few minutes into the game he put up a steady performance particularly in the second half of the game.
He looked a bit rusty from the start no thanks to his lack of game time this season but as the game wore on he got better and ended the game as one of the best performers for Porto in the win that saw them recover from going behind.
His lack of game time has already affected his national team chances as he was placed on standby by the coach of the senior national team of Nigeria, Gernot Rohr in the squad of players for their AFCON 2019 Qualifiers against South Africa and the friendly game against Uganda.
Already the 22 year old is pushing for a loan back to France Ligue 1 side Nantes, where he played a lot during his loan spell last season but Porto have made it clear to the forward that he will have to firstly sign an extension before they will consider his request.
