The need to accord more respect to Chanchung Yatai forward Odion Ighalo by fans of the senior national team of Nigeria has been stressed by coach of the Nigerian team Gernot Rohr.
Ighalo was targeted by Nigerians as part of the reason why the Super Eagles failed to go past the group stages of the World Cup in Russia with many pointing to his poor run of form in front of goal for the Nigerian team.
However, since after the World Cup he has responded with six goals in his last three games for the Nigerian team and Rohr believes he isn’t getting the type of praises his find form in front of goal deserves lately.
Presently the 29 year old lead the top scorers chart in the AFCON 2019 Qualifiers and that according to Rohr is a testament of his abilities in front of goal considering that some countries have strikers highly rated than the Nigerian.
” Ighalo should be respected for his current position as number one in Africa qualifiers scorers. He has scored important goals for us in our last games and we are hoping he continues against South Africa. It’s not easy to be top scorer in a continent like Africa because of the quality of players in the continent. He deserve some respect”, Rohr told Owngoalnigeria.com in a chat.
With six goals to his name, two goals more than El Fardou Mohamed Ben Nabouhane of the Comoros Island and also Zimbabwe striker Knowledge Musonda who also has four goals.
