On loan Chelsea defender Ola Aina was conspicuously missing from the matchday squad of the Super Eagles yesterday in the AFCON 2019 Qualifiers tie which ended 1-1 in Johannesburg.
Aina was widely expected to keep his spot at right back owing to his fine form for Italian Serie A side Torino but Samuel Kalu was preferred to him as right wing-back in coach Gernot Rohr 3-5-2 formation for yesterday game.
His total omission from the matchday squad sparked further questions and the 23 year old has revealed that a knock picked up in the final training session ahead of the game ruled him out of the game.
Aina told Owngoalnigeria.com correspondent in South Africa shortly after the game during a conversation on why he missed out on a spot in the matchday squad.
He was however involved in the post match celebration as the draw secures Nigeria a spot in next year Africa Cup of Nations. A tournament he is already looking forward to after missing the World Cup 2018 in Russia.
