Former captain of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Joseph Yobo says the the man of the match display by South Africa forward Percy Tau in their 1-1 draw against Nigeria was due to the space he was afforded by the Nigerian team.

Yobo who led the Super Eagles to AFCON glory in South Africa in 2013 was a pitch side analyst during the game and while speaking on the performance of Tau, who was voted man of the match faulted the defence of Nigeria for giving him space.

He admitted that the 24 year old is no doubt talented but he had too much space when he is on the ball to try out his tricks and according to Yobo it would have been a lot harder for him if he was denied space.

Tau set up the only goal for South Africa with a lovely turn which took out the Nigerian defence duo of William Troost-Ekong and Kenneth Omeruo in what was a lively performance from the on loan Brighton and Hove Albion forward.

” Tau did very well and he deserve to win the man of the match award but you have to question the space he was given by the defence of Nigeria. Maybe it would have been a lot different if he had little or no time when he is on the ball”, Yobo said.
