One of the players likely to make the Super Eagles squad for their next international engagement in March could be AS Trencin midfielder Abdul Zubairu popularly called “Nigerian N’golo Kante”, Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
Zubairu caught the attention of coach of the senior national team after a member of his back room staff watched a video collection of his game for Slovakian side Trencin, Owngoalnigeria.com exclusively gathered.
The 19 year old was initially billed to be invited to the Nigeria U20 team but just like Samuel Chukwueze, the plan is now to make him a member of the senior national team but with the U23s as his main team.
This season, the former GBS Academy prospect has earned positive reviews for his performance for Trencin particularly in the Europa League qualifiers against Dutch side Feyenoord at the start of the season.
He was heavily linked with a move away from Trencin in the summer but the deal fell through few days to the end of the transfer window. Recent reports indicate that he will no doubt leave the team in January.
Greek side AEK Athens are the favorite for his signature but they are facing competition from Ajax Amsterdam with some teams in Belgium also rumoured to be interested in the midfielder who can win and also distribute balls with ease.
