The hope of Hibernian defender Efe Ambrose staging a comeback to the Super Eagles has been squashed by coach of the team Gernot Rohr, Owngoalnigeria.com reports.
Ambrose has been in fine form for Hibs this season and among all Nigerian defenders in Europe, he has played the highest number of games and his form has led to calls about a return to the national team of Nigeria.
Last month Rohr confirmed he is keeping a close watch on Ambrose and listed him as possible alternative if any of his defenders fail to make the cut in the nearest future.
However, while speaking in a television programme Rohr shut down any hope of a potential return to the team for the 30 year old who helped Nigeria lift the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Franco-German coach said he is focused on getting players who are at the right age to last the country for some years and not players like Ambrose who is already in his 30’s.
