Coach of Belgium top division side Charleroi Felice Mazzu has revealed that the club took a gamble which has now paid off when they decided to sign Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen on loan from Wolfsburg of Germany.

Osimhen is slowly becoming the revelation of the season in Belgium with six goals to his name from 11 games and he is showing the same time of form that made Wolfsburg splash €3m to sign him after his exploits for Nigeria at the 2015 U17 World Youth Championship.

Mazzu said although the team knew about the ‎abilities of the forward it was a risk signing him because of how bad he struggled in Germany, where he failed to score a goal in 18 months.

” Reaching a decision to sign him wasn’t easy. So many things came up but because we have an idea of how good he can be, it was easy to convince the club to take a gamble on him”, Mazzu said after Osimhen latest goal against Lokeren.
