The captain of the senior national team of Nigeria John Obi Mikel has terminated his contract with Chinese side Tianjin Teda, Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

Mikel severe his ties with the Chinese team yesterday and he is now presently searching for a new club as he bid to stay fit ahead of Nigeria’s participation at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

As reported by Owngoalnigeria.com last year, the 31 year old is eyeing a return to Europe to be close to his family and also prefers a move to the Middle East where he has been linked with clubs in Qatar.

He joined Tiajin Teda two years ago after leaving Chelsea where he spent ten and half seasons winning as many as 16 trophies in his stay at the club he joined from Lyn of Norway, after a protracted transfer battle which involved Manchester United claiming to have signed him.

Last season he was injured for most part of the season but still made 18 appearances with two goals to his name despite operating as a deep lying playmaker and sometimes as a central defender.
