The top scorer for the Olympic team of Nigeria at the Rio 2016 Olympics Sadiq Umar has revealed the real reason why he settled for a move to Perugia despite interest from teams playing in top division.
After an unhappy first half of the season on loan to Rangers of Scotland, Roma cancelled his deal with the Scottish side as it was stalling his career growth after his exploits with NAC Breda last season.
A host of clubs slapped in bid to have him for the second stanza of the league but Serie B side Perugia beat all comers to his signature and earlier today announced his signing on a six months loan deal.
Speaking to Owngoalnigeria.com shortly after completing the move, the 21 year old said various factors made him decide on a move to Perugia but the main one was the assurance of regular run of games.
” Perugia have been interested in me for a while. Although this time around I had offers from teams playing in top division in other European Leagues, I decided to opt for Perugia because I will no doubt get playing time”, Sadiq told Owngoalnigeria.com.
” It’s my first season ever in the Serie B but I won’t struggle to adapt because I understand the language, the culture and also the style of play in Italy which might not be the case if I decide to move to a team in another league “, he concluded.
