Former CHAN Eagles forward Ezekiel Bassey has agreed a deal to join Egyptian top division side Al Masry from Nigeria Professional Football League side Akwa United, the club has announced.
Bassey who had a six months spell in Spain with the B team of Barcelona, who were then in the third division joined Akwa United towards the end of last season after Barcelona refuse to take the option of turning his loan deal into a permanent contract.
He had a short and uneventful spell in Iran with top league side Paykan before his return to Nigeria where he pitched tent with his hometown club Akwa United following the expiration of his deal with his last Nigerian team in Enyimba.
Still only 22 years old and blessed with tremendous pace and dribbling abilities, a shoulder injury picked up in the final months of his stay with Barcelona B didn’t help his case of earning a permanent deal.
The length of his contract was not disclosed by the club but initial reports suggest it’s a short term deal with the option of extending it base on the success of his stay with the club in the coming months.
