FC Basel Teen Sensation Okafor Confirms Readiness To Switch Allegiance To Nigeria After Latest Goal

18 year old FC Basel striker who has taken the league in Switzerland by storm this season says he is open to the idea of representing Nigeria despite his current status as a youth team player for the Swiss national team.

Okafor who has three goals and assist this season from sixteen league games told Owngoalnigeria.com in an exclusive chat that he will jump at the chance of playing for Nigeria if called up by the handlers of the various level of Nigeria national team.

” ‎The idea of playing for Nigeria is one I dream about daily. I follow the national team of Nigeria very well and a call up to any of the teams will be a dream come true for me and my family as well”, Okafor told Owngoalnigeria.com after his third goal of the season last weekend in a 2-2 draw against Young Boys.

His declaration will no doubt spark a tussle between Nigeria and Switzerland as the Swiss are keen on holding onto him due to the fact that he has represented them from U15 up to the U21 level.

Comfortable as winger on either flank, a chance to represent Nigeria at the U20 World Youth Championship in Poland is in the offing for the forward whose younger brother Elijah Okafor plays for the U16 of same club.
