Rohr – Akpeyi Will Start In Goal, Onuachu Will Lead Attack Against Egypt

Kaizer Chiefs of South Africa goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi will be in goal for the senior national team of Nigeria when they take on Egypt tomorrow in an international friendly game in Asaba, Owngoalnigeria.com reports.

Coach Gernot Rohr confirmed that Akpeyi will be in goal from the start and Ikechukwu Ezenwa will come in for him in the second half ‎with first choice goalkeeper Francis Uzoho presently with the U23 team ahead of their clash against Libya.

The coach made this known during the pre match conference ahead of the game which both teams are using to prepare themselves for the challenge of lifting the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations which will be hosted by Egypt.

Akpeyi was made first choice back then when Carl Ikeme was diagnosed with Leukemia but a string of poor performance saw him lose his spot to Ezenwa wh‎o was also relegated to the role of second choice following the emergence of Uzoho just before the World Cup in Russia.

” The two goalkeepers will play tomorrow. Akpeyi wil start, Ezenwa will play second half “, Rohr said before confirming that FC Midtjylland striker Paul Onuachu will also lead the attack from the start ” Ighalo is not fit to start but he will be on the bench. We will have new players against Egypt. New striker, new defender. We want to see other players but we all the time want to play good football “, he concluded.
