Out of favour Super Eagles of Nigeria forward Simy Nwankwo is making a late push to be considered for a spot in Nigeria’s squad for the Africa Cup of Nations with his sixth goals in his last four games playing a role in helping Crotone beat Perugia 2-0 in the Italian Serie B.
Simy opened scoring in the game for his 12th goal of the season before setting up the second goal in the second half to take his assists tally to six in 28 games this season.
His form is similar to the way he ended last season in the Serie A where he scored six goals in the final nine matches of the season but his overall tally of seven Serie A goals couldn’t save his team from relegation.
The lanky striker made the Nigerian squad for the World Cup in Russia mainly base on how he finished the season in Italy but since after the World Cup he has only made the Nigerian squad once.
A move to Serie A side Lazio is reportedly on the cards for the 26 year old with an annually salary of €3m for a deal which according to reports will last for three seasons and will come to effect when he becomes a free player in the summer.
