Italy U19 international defender Paolo Gozzi Iweru is proud of his Nigerian roots and in the future will consider representing the African nation at International level, Owngoalnigeria.com understands.
Iweru made his debut for the first team of Juventus in their 1-2 loss to SPAL in the Serie A on Saturday at the age of 17 and he showed no sign of a player who was making the step up from the Serie C to the apex league.
The issue of his nationality caught the attention of Nigerians judging by his name Iweru and our checks confirmed that he is indeed a Nigerian and has a picture of the Nigerian flag on his Instagram page.
Furthermore he finishes most of his post with #Naija and his teammates also call him Nigerian King, a name he answers with pride and has posted it on his social media handle severally. He also follows the Nigeria Football Federation ( NFF) on Instagram.
A Nigerian player who played against him at U17 level in Italy confirmed he is very much interested in issues that concerns Nigerian football owing to his questions after the game which was played early this year.
His interest could be a sign of his willingness to switch allegiance to Nigeria, although he is one talent Italy will do all they can to hold onto as he certainly has a future with their senior national team.
