Super Eagles midfielder Mikel Agu could miss out on a chance of representing Nigeria at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, no thanks to injury that has kept him out for two months, Owngoalnigeria.com reports.
Agu joined Vitoria Setubal on loan from FC Porto before the start of the season and he immediately hit the ground running with performances that twice earned him a nomination in the team of the week in Portugal.
He also replicated same form for Nigeria at senior level with a man of the match display in the 0-0 friendly draw against Uganda in Asaba on the 20th of November last year.
Since then a muscle injury which has sidelined him for two months has kept him out of the squad of the Nigerian team and it could also cost him a spot in the squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations later this year.
No date has been fixed for his return to competitive football and with six games left, the 25 year old who has played in 19 games this season is in a race against time to be fit for a spot in the squad of Nigeria for the tournament holding in Egypt.
