The much celebrated switch of allegiance of German-Nigerian striker Chinedu Ekene from Germany to Nigeria at international level appears to have hit the rocks, Owngoalnigeria.com understands.
Ekene played for Germany at U17 level but decided to switch allegiance to Nigeria after a meeting with the coach of the Nigeria U20 team Paul Aigbogun and he was subsequently listed in the players for the training camp of the team in Germany.
However the 19 year old Hoffenheim striker is yet to arrive the camp of the team which has been on for five days and according to officials of the team, they are yet to hear from him and they are fearing a possible change of mind.
Owngoalnigeria.com spoke with a member of the backroom staff of the team he confirmed they are yet to hear from the striker who they were hoping will arrive camp early considering the fact that the camp is based in Germany.
For now the team has resolved to working with the strikers they have in camp but the door is not close on Ekene if he decides to show up before the final list of players for the tournament is submitted to FIFA.
