Coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr says Bordeaux Nigerian forward Samuel Kalu is currently winning the battle to be fit for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, Owngoalnigeria.com reports.

Kalu hasn’t played for Bordeaux in two months due to family issues associated with the kidnapping of his mother and a harmstring injury sustained in training.

News in France suggest he could miss the remaining games of the season but according to Rohr, Kalu is in line for a return to the pitch before the end of the season and he has already resumed light training.

” I think he will play again this season and also make our squad for the Africa Cup of Nations because we need him to make our team better for the challenge we will face in Egypt “, he remarked.

Owngoalnigeria.com editorial team didn’t get any word of commitment from the coach on the new players he will likely called to his team for the AFCON but sources close to the coach revealed he is a big admirer of Club Brugge forward Dennis Bonaventure.
