The number ten role of the Super Eagles of Nigeria will no doubt dominate discussions when the senior national team of Nigeria resume camp for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
Captain John Obi Mikel is back in the squad but in his absence Arsenal forward Alex Iwobi has played the role almost perfectly and was set to continue in same capacity at the AFCON before Mikel confirmed his availability for the tournament.
Coach of the Nigerian team Gernot Rohr is however not losing sleep over the duo and the battle to play the number ten role for the team at the Africa Cup of Nations, he has however hinted at a new role for Iwobi who according to the coach can play multiple attack roles.
” Our captain and leader is back but our system that worked in the qualifiers will most likely remain the same in some games. Iwobi can play on the wing like he plays at Arsenal, he can play in any role in attack. Mikel can also play in several midfield role. So there’s no much concern on who will play the number ten role”, Rohr told Owngoalnigeria.com.
