Coach of the Nigeria U20 team Paul Aigbogun has played down controversy surrounding the omission of Fisayo Dele-Bashiru from his squad ‎for the U20 World Youth Championship.

17 year old Fisayo joined his elder brother Tom in pledging his international future to Nigeria but after two weeks in the camp of Nigeria U20s he didn’t do enough in the eyes of the coaches to merit a spot in the final 21 man squad for the tournament.

His exclusion led to talks about the Manchester City youth  midfielder shunning any future call up to the national team set up of Nigeria as he believed he was unfairly treated at the camp of the U20s in Germany.

Aigbogun who scouted the midfielder before inviting him has played down the report ‎insisting that Fisayo will still play for Nigeria if called up by any arm of the Nigeria national team.

” Fisayo knows why he was dropped. That is not an issue and I know he will still play for Nigeria if called up. To me he will be a part of the next U20 team because he is just 17 years old. This time around his elder brother Tom who plays same position with him got our nod. Fisayo knows this “, Aigbogun told Owngoalnigeria.com.
