Manchester City Nigeria U20 midfielder Tom Dele-Bashiru has been singled out by world football governing body FIFA as the star player in the U20 team of Nigeria ahead of the start of the World Youth Championship in Poland.
While doing a profile on players to watch at the tournament, FIFA on their official website listed the former England U16 international as one of the star players who will be gracing the tournament in a list which also has the son of the President of Liberia Timothy Weah of PSG.
Dele-Bashiru was convinced to switch allegiance to Nigeria by coach Paul Aigbogun and barring a late minute slump in his form, he will play in a three man midfield which include Kingsley Michael and Nnamdi Ofoborh.
His form has been one of the talking points of the team during their preparations particularly in the two test games he has played for the team. Already he is among the players the coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr will monitor closely during the tournament.
A strong performance at the tournament will also help him secure a high profile move from Man City after turning down the offer of a contract extension proposed by him to the club with his contract winding down this summer.
