Coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Gernot Rohr has revealed the criteria he will use in selecting players for the upcoming friendly game against Zimbabwe, Owngoalnigeria.com reports.
Rohr has been drilling the players at their training base in Asaba as part of preparations for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations and as part of their preparations the friendly game against Zimbabwe will be played on Saturday.
Speaking after yesterday’s training, Rohr said he will use the game to give opportunity to players who didn’t get much game time at their clubs during the recently concluded European football season.
” The game will afford us the chance to watch some players closely and we will use players who didn’t play a lot for their teams last season. We have a plan on how to approach the game and our players are in good condition for the game”, Rohr said.
One of the players who struggled to get regular game time last season Leon Balogun is however struggling to be fit for the game due to blisters on his foot and as reported by Owngoalnigeria.com, he missed yesterday’s full training as he was made to train alone.
A decision on his availability for the Saturday game will be reached tomorrow but in his absence, the duo of Chidozie Awaziem and Semi Ajayi will likely play in central defence as William Troost-Ekong is also not fully fit yet.
