The Nigeria women team got their campaign at the 2019 FIFA Women World Cup back on track with a 2-0 win over one of the tournament’s favorite for the title South Korea.

Following the opening game 0-3 loss against Norway, the Nigerian team started the game brightly knowing fully well that anything short of a win will dim their chances of progression from the ground.

Super Falcons got their first goal courtesy of an own goal but had to wait for a review by the Video Assistant Referee ( VAR) before the goal was finally awarded to them with the referee ruling against the suspected handball against Desire Oparanozie.

Nigeria hang on to their lead into the half time break although they could easily have increased the tally going into the break if not for poor finishing and decision making in the opponent’s half.

Top striker Asisat Oshoala showed her usefulness to the team with the second goal from a quick break by rounding off the goalkeeper and despite the angle going against her, she sneaked her effort in with precision.

The win means Nigeria now have three points ahead of their final group game against host France, a game which even a loss might not stop them from progressing to the next round as the points they have picked so far puts them in strong position as one of the best placed third team.
