From the training sessions of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, coach Gernot Rohr has likely pick the trio of John Obi Mikel, Wilfred Ndidi and Alex Iwobi as his starting midfielders at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
The trio have played together severally during training with Mikel the deepest of the trio although sometimes he plays slightly ahead of Ndidi. Iwobi has however operated from the playmaker role since the start of training for the Africa soccer showpiece.
Oghenekaro Etebo who played in the midfield with Mikel and Ndidi at the World Cup, where Iwobi played from the wings appears to have lost his spot in the middle in the starting lineup as he has trained alongside John Ogu as midfielders for the B team.
If all goes according to plan, the trio will start in the middle in the friendly game against Senegal on Saturday for the coaches to further asses them in a match situation against a strong side before trying it out at the AFCON.
