Nigeria will tomorrow play their first game at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations against Burundi, a game which fans of the team will be hoping they win to get their campaign off on a sound note.

Although the team will be hoping to get the goals, they are also keen on working on their defence to avoid the risk of falling behind and that has made coach Gernot Rohr to try several combinations in central defence.

The pair of William Troost-Ekong and Leon Balogun are the first choice when the coach plays a flat back four and usually in training they are flanked by the duo of Ola Aina and Jamilu Collins as right and left back respectively.

During the training sessions, the team has also experimented with a back three where the duo of Balogun and Ekong played alongside Kenneth Omeruo, Chidozie Awaziem and John Ogu have also played in same position with the aforementioned duo.

Omeruo has also played in a three man central defence with Ola Aina and Ekong but it’s clear to see that the coach will rather play Aina as a wingback than a central defender. Aina and Samuel Kalu have also played as right and left wingback.

Moses Simon has severally impressed as a left full back but Collins is still the first choice in that role although Simon comes top when it comes to playing as a wingback. Aina also impressed in same role.
