Ahmed Musa, Victor Osimhen, Paul Onuachu and Samuel Chukwueze are currently in a battle to pair top striker Odion Ighalo when Nigeria play their first game at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations tomorrow.
Osimhen has impressed with his work ethics off the ball and his skills when on the ball but his main drawback has been his lack of goals in training despite scoring 20 goals in the recent concluded season for modest Belgium side Charleroi.
Onuachu is by far the most potent striker in the camp of the team as he has scored in virtually all of their training sessions but when paired with Ighalo in one of their sessions, the duo found it hard to gel same as when Chukwueze paired the number 9 in training.
Chukwueze played behind Ighalo in the team’s last friendly game against Senegal which they lost 0-1 but to little effect even though he was lively and twice thread passes for Ighalo which he failed to convert. A spot on the wings looks more likely for the Villarreal teen forward.
Musa looks certain to play in a three man attack with Samuel Kalu on the other flank and even if Rohr decides to play a two man attack system, Musa will still get the nod ahead of the rest.
