Former captain of Nigeria U20 team Abul Jeleel Ajagun made headlines in Belgium with his goal for Kortrijk in their 3-1 win away to Cercle Brugge in the Belgium top division.
Ajagun’s goal was roundly voted the best goal in Belgium and the 26 year old who captained the U-20 team of Nigeria in 2013 at the World Youth Championship says his focus is on his form for his club side.
” I’m not thinking about the senior national team of Nigeria “, Ajagun told Owngoalnigeria.com when asked if he has any dream of making the step up to the senior national team of Nigeria.
” I’ve been fortunate enough to play for the U17s and played at two World Youth Championship for the U20 where I captained at one edition, that’s an achievement for me, so even if I don’t get invited for the senior team, I’ll just focus on my club career”, he concluded.
Last season he spent the second half on loan to Omonia Nikosia of Cyprus and declined to make the deal permanent despite the club’s proposal to sign him permanently at the end of last season.
Back at Kortrijk where he has a year to run on his deal, he has so far played in all three games of the club with a goal to his name as he bid to relaunch himself back to the form that saw him play for Greek giants Panathinaikos.
He also turned out for Roda JC in Holland on loan, same spell he endured with Levadiakos of Greece before sealing a permanent departure from Panathinaikos to Kortrijk on a free transfer.
