When the Super Eagles of Nigeria regroup for their next international assignment, coach of the team Gernot Rohr will include two new players in the attack of the team, Owngoalnigeria.com understands.
Rohr will be without top striker Odion Ighalo who announced his retirement from the team and even if he rescinds the fact that he is injured means he won’t be available for selection when Nigeria play their next game in September.
The coach plan to make up for his absence by calling up two new players with one likely to be Kelechi Iheanacho according to sources close to the coach and most likely Chuba Akpom of Greek side PAOK.
Iheanacho has worked his way back into the team after failing to make the squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. Rohr has been impressed with his performance in pre season for Leicester City and the coach expects him to at least get games when the season gets underway.
Akpom has been on the radar of the coach for a while but his club career and form hasn’t been at it’s best since his involvement with the Super Eagles during their training camp in England two years ago.
However he has found his rhythm at Greek side PAOK with a fine run in front of goal during pre season which he consolidated with a goal in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers against Ajax by scoring one of the goals in their 2-2 draw in the first leg.
Owngoalnigeria.com exclusively gathered that the Nigeria Football Federation ( NFF) has already started the process of his international switch from England and if it’s completed on time he will be in the next squad of the Super Eagles.
