Wilfred Ndidi whose error led to the goal scored by Chelsea in their 1-1 draw against Chelsea has been absolved of any blame by coach of the team Brendan Rodgers, Owngoalnigeria.com reports.
Ndidi was caught in possession by Mason Mount on the edge of the Leicester box and the young Chelsea forward finished with aplomb to give his side the lead which they maintained till late into the game when Ndidi make atonement for his error.
Ndidi headed home a corner kick to draw his side level but still showed his emotional side after the game as he struggled to keep his emotions in check during the post match interview over the error which led to the goal.
Rodgers however said Ndidi played according to his instructions hence he should be blamed and not the midfielder who he believe is one of the important players in his team and will play a pivotal role in their aspirations this season.
“The mistake is down to me. I assume responsibility, I always ask my players to play, to show confidence and to play like a top player”, Rodgers said after the game.
“He has just had a wee heavy touch, but I’d rather take that – it’s not even a risk for me, it’s an opportunity when you build the game, because you see throughout the game, after that, the number of times from build-up play that we were able to get out and play through.
“Sometimes that will happen, and unfortunately for Wilf, it did, but I’m so pleased that he scored the header because he is such a great player for us and he deserved to get the goal.”
