The desire of Arsenal to ship out former captain of Nigeria U17 and 20 Kelechi Nwakali has suffered a setback as an agreement wasn’t reached between his representatives and that of the relegated Laliga side, Owngoalnigeria.com understands.
Huesca agreed a deal in principle with Arsenal to sign the 21 year old on a free transfer but with a 40% sell on clause due to the Gunners if he is transferred from the second division Spanish side.
Talks were then initiated with his management team but the fact that he now works with new set of agents made the deal not to materialise and he is back at Arsenal where he is not in the plans of first team coach Unai Emery and also can’t play for the U23s due to work permit issues.
His new management team are now on the lookout for a fresh opportunity for him before the close of the transfer window with a move to Belgium their main aim for now.
Nwakali hasn’t live up to the reputation that earned him the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award at the 2015 U17 World Youth Championship as he has failed to impress in two of the three clubs he has played on loan since signing for Arsenal.
He was brilliant for MVV Maastricht in two different spells but struggled at VVV Venlo and last season didn’t make the grade with the B team of Portuguese side FC Porto.
