Before the start of the English Championship many Nigerians were keen on watching the duo of Semi Ajayi at his new club West Brom and Oghenekaro Etebo who was last season voted as Stoke City player of the year.
Ebere Eze who has been severally scouted by the technical crew of the Super Eagles long before he made his U20 bow for England was also mentioned with many eager to see if he can maintain some consistency that will aid his chances of playing for the Super Eagles.
So far with four games played in the Championship, a new name is on the lips of most Nigerians in Ovie Ejaria who trained with the 2013 Nigeria U17 team ahead of their campaign at the World Youth Championship that same year.
With four games played so far Ajayi has been solid for West Brom, Eze has impressed as well with a goal to his name already while Etebo although made an uncharacteristic error in his team 1-3 loss to Preston North End yesterday, he can still be forgiven as the game was his first since returning to the club after his involvement with Nigeria at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
On the other hand Ejaria has been simply magnificent for Reading where he is spending the season on loan from Liverpool with the Championship side having the option of making the deal permanent at the end of the season.
He has played in two league games so far with a goal to his name, he has also scored in the preliminary round of the EFL Cup despite his role as a deep lying playmaker for his team.
Aside the goals in the three games he has played so far, fans of Reading unanimously agreed that he was their best player on the pitch with his fancy footworks, intelligent positioning and neat passes not forgetting his composure on the ball.
If he maintains his form, a national team call up won’t be far off as coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr is aware of the potentials of the 21 year old who has played for England at U20 and 21 level but has never hidden his desire to play for the Super Eagles at senior level.
