Anders Kevin has taken a swipe at the coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Gernot Rohr over his decision to hand a first time call up to Club Brugge wing forward Dennis Bonaventure insisting that David Okereke would have been a better option.
Reacting to the news of the call up, Kevin said Okereke looks more like the player every manager would love to have in his team considering how well he has adapted to life in Belgium since his move to Club Brugge from second division Italian side Spezia.
Okereke has scored four goals in five games for his new side with one assist to his name unlike his teammate Dennis who has who has just one goal this season and no assist to his name so far.
Beyond their goal return Kevin said Okereke has shown more consistency than Dennis who drifts in and out of games and at a time was even dropped for Okereke to play from his favourite position on the left.
” It’s strange that the better player didn’t get a call up. They are both good but Okereke is slightly better . Many will say he plays mostly as a striker but he has played on the left this season and over‎all did well. It’s very funny that the Nigerian coach called the one who is less consistent. It’s a joke here in Belgium right now”, Kevin told Owngoalnigeria.com.
True to the words of Kevin, last season while at Spezia Okereke operated from the left and scored ten goals with twelve assists to his name, a form which earned him the move to Club Brugge before the start of the season in Belgium.
